Singapore, 29 September 2022 – NTUC FairPrice (FairPrice) announced today that it will donate S$40,000, through its charity arm FairPrice Foundation, to the Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA) to support the educational needs of needy students, in the festive spirit of Deepavali.
Ms Elaine Heng, Deputy Group CEO of FairPrice Group, said, “During this festival of lights, FairPrice joins the Hindu community to celebrate Deepavali by reaffirming its social mission to give back. Through our donation to SINDA, we continue to provide support for beneficiaries to excel in their academic goals.”
The event, held at FairPrice at City Square Mall, was graced by Ms Indranee Rajah, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Finance and National Development, who witnessed the presentation of the cheque from Ms Heng to Mr Anbarasu Rajendran, CEO of SINDA.
The presentation was followed by a sponsored shopping trip by FairPrice for five SINDA beneficiary families to shop for their household needs ahead of the festival.
Since 2011, FairPrice Foundation has donated over $320,000 to SINDA, including this year’s donation, which will benefit children who are currently receiving social and financial support from SINDA. This initiative is just one of the many charity efforts realised by FairPrice.
FairPrice’s charity arm, FairPrice Foundation was launched in 2008 with the aim to improve lives in the community. FairPrice has since disbursed more than $178 million to the community through FairPrice Foundation, along with various charity initiatives and volunteerism activities, to foster a spirit of giving within the community.
To celebrate Deepavali with customers, all FairPrice stores will be dressed up from 29 September to 2 November and special discounts will be offered on an assortment of festive related products. Additionally, a “Deepavali Festive Draw” will also be held where customers can stand a chance to win 4 electric cars. Customers will also receive Deepavali festive packets, while stocks last, with a minimum spend of S$30 at FairPrice stores.
