SINGAPORE, 9 February 2023 – FairPrice Group announced the appointment of its first Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO), Chan Tee Seng. Tee Seng’s mandate will be to drive the social enterprise’s sustainability initiatives, outlined in a strategic framework that focuses on three areas: promoting a circular and low carbon economy, supporting livelihoods and well-being, and serving its customers. He will develop and execute long-term sustainability initiatives across FPG, its supply chains and various stakeholder groups.
Vipul Chawla, Group CEO, FPG, said that Tee Seng’s appointment signals the growing emphasis that FPG is placing on sustainability. “The pandemic has fast-tracked the retail industry’s sustainability agenda. We are now operating in an environment where social responsibility to our customers and stakeholders are intertwined with prioritising environmental challenges. Going forward, even as FPG continues to focus on our social mission of moderating the cost of living, we are doubling down on our efforts to make a positive impact on preserving our planet’s limited resources. With more than three decades of experience in business transformation and management, Tee Seng is a tenured leader who is well-placed to help FPG navigate new developments and legislation.”
Tee Seng, Chief Sustainability Officer, FPG said, “In tandem with our social mission, we aspire to be an environmentally responsible and socially-conscious retailer. I’m excited to take on this new role to inspire bold action in support of sustainable development in FPG and in Singapore’s retail landscape.”
Prior to his current appointment as CSO, Tee Seng was CEO of the Food Services Business at FPG and held various leadership roles within NTUC and NTUC Enterprise. He has more than 30 years of experience spanning different industries and units within the NTUC ecosystem and was also the CEO of NTUC First Campus. Under his leadership, Tee Seng spearheaded the business transformation initiatives of various social enterprises by implementing innovative digital solutions to deliver greater value and increase productivity. Tee Seng was also Chairman of the Singapore National Co-operative Federation (SNCF) from 2009 to 2017.
As part of FPG’s sustainability efforts, the social enterprise champions efforts such as the “No Plastic Bag” initiative and “FairPrice-CSR Food Waste Reduction Programme”. In addition, FPG is also aligned with the Singapore Green Plan 2030, a whole-of-nation movement to advance the national agenda on sustainable development.
