- FPG to host two block parties for the community on 4 November
Singapore, 20 October 2023 – FairPrice Group today announced a series of activities to ring in the Deepavali season. These activities will be focused on serving vulnerable households and strengthening community bonds.
The community activities were kick-started with a $40,000 donation to the Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA) today. In addition, FairPrice Group will also host two Block Parties in Kaki Bukit and Woodlands. These parties will be open to the community on the 4th of November.
FairPrice Group’s donation to SINDA took place at an event held at FairPrice Xtra Jurong Point. It was graced by Indranee Rajah, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Finance and National Development. Jonas Kor, General Manager, FairPrice Foundation, presented the donation to Mr Anbarasu Rajendran CEO, SINDA. Following the presentation, five beneficiary families of SINDA participated in a shopping trip sponsored by FairPrice Group. This was to help them meet their household needs for the Deepavali season.
Vipul Chawla, Group CEO, FairPrice Group, who joined the SINDA beneficiaries on their shopping trip, said, “Deepavali is a season to celebrate the light in all of us and the joy of giving back. This fits perfectly with our social mission at FairPrice Group to moderate the cost of living for all in Singapore and serve those in need. We are grateful for the continued privilege of partnering SINDA to uplift the Indian community in Singapore.”
To date, FairPrice Foundation has donated over $360,000 to SINDA, funds that have gone towards benefiting families in need of social and financial support, and supporting the educational needs of children from underprivileged backgrounds.
In further efforts to bring the community together this festive season, FairPrice Group has also organised two Deepavali Block Parties which will take place on 4 November. These events are open to the public, and will showcase a variety of themed activities, including rangoli arts and crafts, kacang puteh carts, and carrom board stations.
The Block Parties will also launch FairPrice Group’s Neighbourhood Food Share Initiative, a programme aimed at providing the less fortunate with fresh groceries, reducing food waste, and promoting sharing within the community. More information will be available closer to the event date.
To celebrate Deepavali with customers, FairPrice Group will also be running special discounts on groceries which are popular during the festive period till 15 November, ensuring that families have access to staples for their celebrations. These include products such as basmati rice and muruku.
This year, a Deepavali Festive Draw will be held where customers stand a chance to win two cars with every $30 spent at FairPrice stores and online. Customers can also request for a special Deepavali festive packet from cashiers with a minimum spend of $30.
