SINGAPORE, 23 January 2020 – NTUC FairPrice today announced a donation of S$50,000 to The Business Times Budding Artist Fund (BT BAF) and the Mediacorp Enable Fund (MEF). The donation amount was raised as part of the “One FairPrice Family” initiative where S$10 is donated for every hour FairPrice Group’s Chairman, board members, senior management and staff from headquarters (HQ) volunteer at over 148 FairPrice stores, distribution and fulfilment centres during the Lunar New Year festive season. In total, over 5,000 hours were clocked for this period.

To commemorate the donation, Mr Bobby Chin, Chairman of FairPrice Group and Mr Seah Kian Peng, Group CEO, FairPrice Group, presented S$50,000 to BT BAF and MEF at FairPrice Xtra at VivoCity, witnessed by beneficiaries of the funds. The beneficiaries were also treated to a shopping trip, where they were each gifted S$50 worth of shopping vouchers to purchase items for their Lunar New Year celebration.

Mr Seah Kian Peng, Group CEO, FairPrice Group, said, “The One FairPrice Family programme aims to promote solidarity and camaraderie among staff from different departments while also facilitating better understanding of customer’s needs. This year, the initiative continues to bring our board members, senior management team and staff together through teamwork and at the same time, contribute to help beneficiaries supported by The Business Times Budding Artist Fund and Mediacorp Enable Fund.”

One FairPrice Family Programme

The One FairPrice Family Programme is a structured initiative that gives all FairPrice management and corporate employees – numbering some 800 employees based at FairPrice Headquarters (HQ) – the opportunity to engage in operational activities to foster inter-department integration among its 10,000 strong workforce and sharpen its focus on being a customer-centric retailer.

Under this initiative, management and corporate staff are requested to commit a minimum of three days annually to support the retailer’s key operational functions. The additional in-store support also seeks to alleviate heightened manpower needs required to manage increased customer traffic during the festive peak season. Examples of tasks corporate staff engage in include attending to customers, replenishing goods, retrieving trolleys, and selling mandarin oranges during the Lunar New Year festive season.
