FairPrice Group keeps festive essentials within reach with price freeze and discounts on popular Chinese New Year produce

  • Prices for popular seafood, pork, and vegetables – including Chinese pomfret, red grouper, tiger prawns, pork spare ribs and yuan xiao bai cabbage – will be locked during the festive season
  • Exclusive discounts on popular vegetables will also run during the same period

SINGAPORE, 9 JANUARY 2024 – To keep Chinese New Year essentials within reach for all this festive season, FairPrice Group (FPG) announced today a price freeze on popular fish and seafood, pork, and vegetable items across all FairPrice supermarkets. The price freeze will be coupled with discounts on select fresh vegetables, and run throughout the Chinese New Year period.

This initiative follows FPG’s recently launched Return Vouchers scheme, and its announced 6 per cent discount for CHAS Blue and Orange cardholders on Thursdays and Fridays respectively across all FairPrice and Unity outlets. It is part of the Group’s commitment to ensure that customers have access to the quality staples they need for Chinese New Year celebrations with family and friends.

The festive price freeze, Return Vouchers scheme, and CHAS Blue and Orange cardholder discounts are the latest in FPG’s series of initiatives to commemorate SG60 together with Singaporeans, by helping them stretch their dollars amid stubborn inflation.

Mr Vipul Chawla, Group CEO, FairPrice Group, said, “Chinese New Year is a time for families to gather, celebrate, and deepen bonds. We are mindful that, coupled with SG60 celebrations, this is one of the most significant milestones of the year for many Singaporeans. High demand for festive produce inevitably drives prices up, and so this price freeze is our way of making every day of the season a little better for our customers by keeping these popular festive essentials within reach.”

Market surveys conducted between 2nd to 7th January 2025 indicated a gradual increase in prices for popular fresh produce – such as Chinese Pomfret and Red Grouper – sold at wet markets across Singapore. Prices for seafood and pork were found to be between 20 to 30 per cent higher1, when compared with those in FairPrice stores.
