Every day, a significant amount of food goes to waste, while many in our community face challenges in putting meals on their tables.
Our fridge restock initiative aims to tackle food waste head-on while ensuring that fresh, healthy options of fruits and vegetables are accessible to those who need them most.
Every week, we fill community fridges in neighbourhoods across Singapore with imperfect edibles that we rescue from our stores.

While ugly fruits and vegetables may exhibit blemishes or yellowing leaves, these fresh produce are still safe for consumption! Here are 3 easy guidelines to consume these rescued produce safely:
Cut or trim the fruits and veggies to salvage the fresher portions
Prioritise washing and preparation to remove dirt and particles from the produce
Cook vegetables thoroughly and add them to meals for taste and visual appeal
The community fridge restock initiative is a community engagement programme that aims to rescue imperfect edibles to reduce food waste and ensure that fruit and vegetable options are always accessible and available for the community.
We partner with volunteers in community groups and RCs around Singapore, to restock community fridges on a weekly basis.
Beneficiaries of this initiative come from all walks of life including a majority of elderly residents and people from lower income groups.
With the exception of the Marine Terrace community fridge, we do not own and manage the other community fridges. The community fridges are maintained by different community groups including the Residents’ Committees or other volunteer networks. We collaborate closely with these community fridge champions to restock the fridges with fruits and vegetables for the community.
We ensure that all fruits and vegetables rescued meet safety and quality standards for consumption. While they may not meet aesthetic standards, they are still nutritious and good for consumption.
Proper cooking and handling of the food before consumption can further guarantee the safety of consuming these imperfect edibles.
While some community fridges welcome public contributions, every community fridge has specific guidelines in place. We recommend reaching out to the community fridge owners for more information for contributing to its cause.
