SINGAPORE, 1 February 2023 – FairPrice Foundation ushered in the Year of the Rabbit with a Lunar New Year celebration and visit by FairPrice senior management and staff to residents of Ren Ci @ Ang Mo Kio (Nursing Home). The event saw the donation of a specially retrofitted van, worth S$150,000 to transport residents with limited mobility and an additional S$100,000 over a two year period to support a Rehabilitation and Reward programme called FairPrice Retail Therapy @ Ren Ci.
Mr Seah Kian Peng, Chairman, FairPrice Foundation, who led a contingent of FairPrice staff in a resident engagement activity at the nursing home this morning, said, “The donation of the retrofitted van helps empower the lives of the patients, and provide much-needed mobility and accessibility especially to those with physical disabilities. It also gives their families better peace of mind as the patients can commute between their homes and the centre safely. Through this initiative, we hope to also inspire other organisations to lend their support for various charitable causes as we build a more caring and inclusive society for all.”
The vehicle will transport patients and clients who are wheelchair-bound and from low-income families, between their place of residence to various Ren Ci facilities.
“Ren Ci is deeply grateful for the long-standing partnership and generosity shown to us by the FairPrice Foundation,” said Mr Seow Choke Meng, Chairman, Ren Ci Hospital. “Their continuing support brings great joy to our beneficiaries, and this year’s addition of a specially retrofitted van is especially timely as we face increased need for wheelchair transport. We are proud to count FairPrice Foundation amongst the friends of Ren Ci and a leading example of corporate volunteerism.”
Renewed support to FairPrice Retail Therapy @ Ren Ci
In addition to the van donation, FairPrice Foundation has committed S$100,000 to support FairPrice Retail Therapy @ Ren Ci. This rehabilitation and reward programme, introduced in 2018, serves to motivate residents and seniors to participate actively in the centre’s rehabilitation activities while accumulating stamps in exchange for grocery items at the FairPrice Redemption Cart located within the Senior Care Centre.
The programme also incorporates a rehabilitation element which aims to instil functioning skills and support independent living. The donation will be made over two years till February 2025.
Celebrating Lunar New Year with the residents
As part of its annual engagement with the Ren Ci Nursing Home, FairPrice staff were able to once again organise a festive celebration with the residents. Such activities were halted over the past two years due to COVID restrictions. This year, over 30 staff from the management team and employees from various departments within FairPrice Group put up decorations made with upcycled materials, sang and tossed “Yu Sheng”, gave out goodie bags, red packets and mandarin oranges to spread some festive cheer with the residents.
Ren Ci is an organisation that FairPrice has been actively supporting since 2009. The Lunar New Year celebration and visit are part of existing volunteering efforts at Ren Ci, where staff regularly take time off to visit residents as befrienders, as part of the FairPrice Volunteers Programme. Last year, FairPrice staff contributed over 625 volunteer hours to various causes through the FairPrice Volunteers Programme.
