Singapore, 26 January 2022 – FairPrice Group (FPG), together with Singapore Red Cross (SRC), today kick-started the first cycle of its ‘Meals with Love’ programme with a house visit to a SRC beneficiary by FPG volunteers led by its Group CEO, Mr Seah Kian Peng. The visit complements the festive season and seeks to uplift the spirits of the beneficiary household by distributing Chinese New Year cookies and FairPrice vouchers. The cookies are specially prepared by FPG’s Food Services’ Central Kitchen.
Mr Seah said during the visit, “FairPrice celebrates this major festivity with our community and together, brings cheer to the less fortunate. Through this initiative, we seek to encourage and cultivate a culture of volunteerism through teamwork and empathy to develop a more cohesive society. ”
Over 30 FPG volunteers have signed up for the first cycle of the ‘Meals with Love’ programme which will take place from January to June 2022. Working closely with the SRC team, FPG staff are paired up and will be trained as befrienders to regularly visit the beneficiaries while ensuring safe and meaningful interactions.
Earlier on 6 November 2021, in conjunction with receiving the Humanitarian Award during the Singapore Red Cross Awards ceremony, Mr Seah had presented a cheque of S$1.2 million on behalf of FairPrice Foundation to SRC Chairman Mr Tan Kai Hoe. The funds, which will be disbursed over a three year period, will be channelled to the ‘Singapore Red Cross – FairPrice Meals with Love’ programme, which aims to alleviate food and grocery expenses for SRC beneficiaries. A total of 600 families is expected to benefit under the programme by the end of its three year run.
In 2008, FairPrice’s charity arm, FairPrice Foundation, was launched with the aim to improve lives in the community. Over the last 14 years, FairPrice has donated more than S$183 million to the FairPrice Foundation, along with other do good initiatives and volunteerism work, hoping that efforts such as these will continue to foster a spirit of giving and caring within the community.
