Singapore, 4 November 2023 – To build closer community ties and deepen community engagement through activities that support moderating the cost of living for all in Singapore, FairPrice Group (FPG) today pledged to hold festive block parties for all from now till end-2024.

To kick off the initiative, FPG will host two Block Parties at Kaki Bukit and Woodlands today, in celebration of Deepavali. This marks the second instalment of FairPrice’s festive block parties, which started in August 2023 during the National Day celebrations. This latest edition of FairPrice Block Parties underscores FPG’s commitment to provide Singaporeans with greater value every day across the food continuum, even while basking in festive fun.

The Deepavali edition of FPG’s Block Parties will incorporate cultural elements, including the creation of a communal rangoli guided by esteemed rangoli artist, Vijaya Mohan. Ms Mohan holds the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest Rangoli. Adding to the festive spirit at the block parties is Mr Amirthaalangaram Moorthy, Singapore’s renown kacang puteh uncle from Peace Centre. He will be distributing FairPrice’s nuts and muruku to residents.

The FairPrice on Wheels truck was originally introduced in 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, as a community initiative to enhance accessibility of daily essentials to low-income seniors. FairPrice on Wheels will make an appearance at all FPG Block Parties to offer attendees a wide variety of more than 200 products, including daily essentials, FairPrice housebrand items, fresh fruits, and vegetables. Residents attending the Deepavali block parties will receive $10 worth of FairPrice coupons that can be used at the FairPrice on Wheels truck, and are redeemable at the nearest eligible FairPrice stores.

In line with FPG’s ongoing commitment to uplift the community, 100 goodie bags will be distributed to lower-income families at today’s block parties. The bags will include FairPrice housebrand items filled with daily staples such coffee and oatmeal; in addition to grocery shopping coupons.

For the first time, residents will be able to learn more about how they can join FPG in food rescue and community food sharing.

As of October 2023, FPG has committed to food rescue and community food sharing at ten community fridges. It has plans to work with the community to contribute to additional community fridges across the island. This initiative is part of FPG’s commitment to reduce food waste and nourish the underprivileged in the communities that it operates in.
