FairPrice Group (FPG) concluded its Chinese New Year (CNY) community engagement outreach with a joyous celebration at Ren Ci @ Ang Mo Kio (Nursing Home) for the elderly. The event united volunteers and participants of all ages, including seniors, kindergarteners, and FPG staff, to offer companionship and spread joy to the elders. To extend its outreach to more communities this festive season, FPG volunteers also came together to distribute festive care packs to more than 4000 seniors from 29 nursing homes and active ageing centres across the island over this week.
At today’s celebration, Ren Ci nursing home members were treated to uplifting performances and activities, ranging from a lion dance by The Silver Pride Lion Troupe, Singapore’s first senior lion dance group; a song recital by kindergarteners from My First Skool; to a CNY sing-along session with the FPG leadership team. Such intergenerational programmes have proven to provide engagement for seniors as well as bolster a strong sense of compassion and community across generations.
FPG volunteers and seniors from Ren Ci also participated in the traditional Lo Hei toss, and received festive care packs prepared by FPG volunteers, containing elderly-friendly items including biscuits, tea, nutritious cereal drinks and mandarin oranges. Ren Ci Nursing Home was among 29 nursing homes and active ageing centres to receive these care packs, as part of FairPrice Group’s $80,000 pledge last month to support seniors in need through its philanthropic arm – FairPrice Foundation.
Mr Vipul Chawla, Group CEO, FairPrice Group said, “FairPrice Group remains true to our purpose by supporting the vulnerable in the communities which we operate in. Chinese New Year is a time to connect and bond with family and loved ones, and that is something we have encouraged in all of our activities this festive season. Ren Ci has been a cherished partner of FairPrice Group for over a decade, and it’s a privilege to join hands once again to bring joy and cheer to the seniors here.”
This Chinese New Year, FPG has introduced a wave of initiatives to help Singaporeans cope with rising costs and to foster community bonding. Its CNY Block Parties brought residents together in celebration of the season and gave them the opportunity to support the vulnerable, while its price freeze on popular seafood and exclusive promotions for vegetables throughout the CNY period was announced to aid customers in preparing for their family reunions.
While the CNY festivities may be winding down, members of the public can continue to contribute essential items by participating in FPG’s Festive Care Pack initiative. Donations can be made at all FairPrice Stores and online from 22 February to 31 March 2024. Customers may approach any FairPrice cashier to purchase a Festive Care Pack or make a donation via the FairPrice Group app. This initiative aims to support over 364,000 beneficiaries through FPG partners such as Food from the Heart (Singapore), The Food Bank Singapore, and Jamiyah FoodBank.
