Singapore, 12 April 2021 – NTUC FairPrice (FairPrice) today announced it has introduced twice as many Halal-certified products over the past 12 months to better cater to the needs of the Muslim community in Singapore – close to 1,500 new Halal-certified products were added to the existing stable of over 5,700 Halal-certified products available at various FairPrice stores island-wide.
Mr Seah Kian Peng, Group CEO, FairPrice Group, said, “FairPrice’s expanded range of Halal-certified products helps complement the evolving needs of the Muslim community towards the celebration of the festive season. As our Muslim customers observe the Ramadan period, we continue to show our consideration by providing dates and refreshments at our stores to help them break their fast. Ramadan is also a time of doing good and we are privileged to provide social support for those in need.”
To mark Ramadan this year, FairPrice Foundation will donate $20,000 and 100 hampers to Yayasan MENDAKI to provide relief to low-income families in the Muslim community through awarding bursaries, subsidies for school fees and other academic programme initiatives. Each hamper contains daily necessities such as rice, oil and noodles to help alleviate the cost of living for low-income families. FairPrice Foundation has since donated more than $360,000 to Yayasan MENDAKI over the past seven years, including this year’s donation.
The event, held at NTUC FairPrice@Woodlands Civic Centre, was graced by Mr Zaqy Mohamad, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Defence & Ministry of Manpower who put together a hamper with CEO of Yayasan MENDAKI, Mdm Zuraidah Abdullah.
Mdm Zuraidah Abdullah, CEO of Yayasan MENDAKI, said, “FairPrice’s continued contribution over the years has played a significant role in helping us to fund our programmes and initiatives for our community. The donation will go a long way towards assisting our students and youth with their educational needs especially in these challenging times.”
