Singapore, 1 April 2022 – NTUC FairPrice (FairPrice) today announced its 14th year of distributing beverages with dates or snacks to the Muslim community during the month of Ramadan. To commemorate the special occasion, FairPrice will also be donating S$40,000, through its charity arm FairPrice Foundation, to Yayasan MENDAKI to support children from low-income families in the Muslim community.
Ms Elaine Heng, Deputy Group CEO, FairPrice Group, said, “Doing good is one of the virtues to observe during Ramadan. To commemorate the occasion, FairPrice has increased our donation to Yayasan MENDAKI this year to empower more children from less fortunate families to achieve academic excellence. In addition, to better engage our Muslim customers, we will also continue our practice of distributing free dates and refreshments at all our stores in the evening to complement the breaking of fast.”
The event, held at FairPrice @ SingPost Centre, was graced by Dr Maliki Osman, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, who gave out specially curated hampers to beneficiaries of Yayasan MENDAKI present and witnessed the presentation of the cheque from Ms Heng to Mdm Zulaiha Yusuf, Deputy CEO of Yayasan MENDAKI.
“We are deeply grateful to FairPrice for its strong support and generosity to the Education Trust Fund (ETF) since 2014. More than 1,800 students had benefitted from FairPrice’s contributions to ETF. We hope more corporate organisations, foundations and individuals would come forward to partner MENDAKI and help our students to pursue their studies and achieve their dreams,” said Mdm Zulaiha Yusuf, Deputy CEO of Yayasan MENDAKI.
Mdm Zuraidah Abdullah, CEO of Yayasan MENDAKI, said, “FairPrice’s continued contribution over the years has played a significant role in helping us to fund our programmes and initiatives for our community. The donation will go a long way towards assisting our students and youth with their educational needs especially in these challenging times.”
Donation to Yayasan MENDAKI to support children from low-income families
FairPrice Foundation donated S$40,000, doubling the $20,000 donated in 2021, to Yayasan MENDAKI to provide academic financial assistance to children from low-income families in the Muslim community. Over the past eight years, FairPrice Foundation has donated more than S$400,000 to Yayasan MENDAKI.
