SINGAPORE, 15 February 2019 – NTUC FairPrice (FairPrice) today renewed its commitment to volunteerism, starting the year’s volunteer activities with a visit by FairPrice senior management and staff to residents of Ren Ci @ Ang Mo Kio. They were joined by kindergarten students from My First Skool, as part of efforts to spread cheer to the residents, while inculcating values of empathy and respect for elderly in the young.

Mr Seah Kian Peng, CEO of NTUC FairPrice, said, “FairPrice continues to give back to the community through the FairPrice Volunteers Programme, which aims to encourage volunteerism and giving among both our staff and the community we serve. Beyond this, we recognise the importance of involving the young in charitable activities while also promoting multi-generational bonding as we strive to build a compassionate and inclusive society for one and all.”

As part of the FairPrice Volunteers Programme in 2019, FairPrice will continue to give back to the community, with strategic partnerships to contribute at least 4,000 volunteer hours. In 2018, the programme also engaged over 100 youths through partnership with Youth Corps Singapore.

The visit to Ren Ci @ Ang Mo Kio involved a lively Lunar New Year celebration that included a visit by ‘Cai Shen Ye’ (God of Prosperity), games, tossing of yusheng, song and dance performances by students from My First Skool.

The activities are part of existing volunteering efforts at Ren Ci, where staff regularly take time off to visit residents as befrienders, as part of the FairPrice Volunteers Programme. Ren Ci is an organisation that FairPrice has been actively supporting since 2009.

FairPrice Volunteers Programme

Since its launch in 2012, FairPrice staff have contributed over 26,000 volunteer hours through the FairPrice Volunteers Programme. Efforts this year are expected to reach more than 1,000 beneficiaries through more than 30 activities at various organisations.

Activities for this year will include facilitating and assisting in grocery shopping trips, befriending and spending special occasions with the elderly and persons with disabilities. All volunteers undergo training to equip them with practical knowledge of volunteerism and working with beneficiaries.
